Vessels and ships in particular create bilge water, which is a mixture consisting of seawater, oils and other substances from on-board activities.

To protect the marine environment, regulations prescribe strict guidelines, which can be achieved through appropriate treatments.

Specifically, clear water, properly purified, is obtained through the processes of filtration, de-oiling, decantation, the chemical and physical treatments of electrocoagulation.

How the Sentina Water Purification Works.

The treatment is carried out by means of storage tanks, through which a static settling operation is carried out for an appropriate period of up to 10 days.
Such pretreatment puts in place, in addition to decantation, a separation of the oil phase.
This process requires accuracy, as it could create technical problems in the tanks of the chemical-physical plant, i.e., causing the sludge flocs to surface instead of settling.
The fluid, containing sulfides, aldehydes and glycols, is filtered and subjected to a chemical oxidation reactor or electrochemical system.

In the next step, the fluid is chemically treated by dosing thickening agents and flocculants; thus, the produced sludge flocs are separated through the Coind lamellar decanter.

The final stages often involve passing over quartz and carbon filters, concluding with an ultrafiltration and osmosis system to remove all traces of pollutants.

The complete process allows for a lower environmental impact , in the order of the requirements outlined in the regulations.
Thewater used in the ship's activities can then be released into the sea without causing environmental damage, and theoil separated and retained by the treatments can be purchased by a center responsible for processing it into fuel, or alternatively collected by the waste oil consortium.

The bilge water treatment plants that Coind makes involve reduced use of chemical reagents, resulting in aneven lighter ecological footprint.
